Welcome letter from Headteacher

Click here to read some exciting news about Charleton and West Alvington Schools.

Dear Parents/Guardians

Thank you for your interest in Charleton Primary School. We hope the contents of this website will help you make our school the choice for your child. We are a small village school situated in a wonderful natural environment on the edge of the Kingsbridge estuary.

Records show that a school with about forty pupils was flourishing in the village in 1870. The present building was opened in 1890 as a result of an act of private munificence by the Earl and Countess of Compton. The school has gone from strength to strength and we now enjoy a computer suite, a new Key Stage 1 teaching area and interactive whiteboards in every classroom.

We believe our school provides a caring and secure environment where children, staff, parents and governors work happily together to create the opportunity for a quality education for the children of this community.
As a voluntary controlled school we are fortunate to have the Church’s support in many areas. They provide us with representatives on our Governing Body and help us to develop our Religious Education Curriculum and Acts of Worship.

We have a hard working and dedicated staff charged with providing pupils with quality learning opportunities. I have high expectations and am keen to move the school forward, building on recent successes. As a governing body we are not complacent about the future and are committed to raising standards: providing an effective, inspiring education for all of our pupils.

The stars of our school are of course, the children themselves. Very few visitors fail to comment on their politeness, energy and enthusiasm! I feel very privileged and proud to lead their learning - they deserve the best.

Our aims centre round the needs of the whole child. They can only be experienced by seeing our philosophy at work. To see why we think our school and children are so special, I would suggest that your next step, after browsing this website, is to arrange a visit with your child.

I look forward to meeting you.
Yours faithfully

Mrs Rachel Perkins BEd Hons
